GREE Announces Its First Participation at Mobile World Congress 2012, One of the World's Largest Mobile Device Events- GREE to strengthen alliances with mobile phone carriers and handset makers -
TOKYO, Japan - February 27, 2012 - GREE announced it will be exhibiting for the first time ever at the Mobile World Congress 2012 (“MWC2012”), one of the world's largest mobile device related events, being held from February 27 to March 1, 2012 * at Barcelona, Spain. GREE will increase its potential to expand businesses with mobile phone carriers in the European market and convey the excitement of mobile social games by introducing its popular in-house games such as “Tsuri-sta” and “Tanken Doliland” at the booth, which will also be provided on the GREE Platform to be released in the April-June 2012 quarter.
GREE is accelerating the globalization of its unique business model, throughout the globe, which develops and operates its own SNS, platform and social games for mobile devices such as smartphones. According to research announced in February from IDC, the US research firm, global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2011 amounted to 157.8 mm units, a 54.7% increase from 120 mm units for the same period the year prior, and 491.4 mm units for the full year. GREE sees this trend as an opportunity for globalization and has established 9 offices across the globe, and is expanding in the North American, APAC, and EMEA regions.
In 2011, GREE agreed to a comprehensive business partnership with Korea's largest mobile phone carrier, SK telecom. We also have an alliance with AT&T, North America's largest mobile phone carrier and provide our gaming network for AT&T's Android™ phones. In addition, GREE has partnered with Tencent, China's online community service provider with 700 mm users, and working together to provide an open platform with standardized specifications for both feature phones and smartphones. In Japan, GREE is enhancing its partnerships with mobile phone carriers and handset makers, by pre-installing the “GREE” application on Android™ phones provided by NTT DOCOMO, KDDI, SOFTBANK and eAccess.
